POS v2.0 Launch Date Released!

communication

Just announced at the recent Bannana convention on Tuesday is the latest innovation in the way people not only WILL communicate in the future but it will be NECESSARY to communicate. Ladies and Gentlemen without further ado i give you the “POS* v2.0” (PieceOfString).

The much talked about and awaited launch took place amongst a lot of tech rumours, with various mythical whispers coming from the communications industry big-wigs:-

“We see the launch of “POS” as a landmark in telecommunications, I haven’t seen as much justified excitement since our prehistoric brethren danced around the first flames. Am I excited? Am I f**k!!”

- Pat Phelan – Max Roam / TwitterFone / General Sound Bloke

On the edge of people’s lips was the specification of this revoloutionary piece of kit. People were easily dismayed at the structural design of “POS V1.0” with it’s cheap-feel plastic texture, some would nearly compare with that of a yohgurt container, not durable, now is a sleek metalic finish which is designed for durability and even better data retention! Given a slick chrome finish that will turn heads the POS v2.0 is dripping in features that will leave your open sores aching as to how you lived your life with out it! There are two models, the single-way broadcast (one string) and the dual-band

talking

Included in “POS v2.0” is greater connectivity (bigger cans), now improved range of coverage (longer string than v1.0) and now with ground breaking technology there will be included new social media gadgetry in the form of HyfBUD (HowsYourFatherBuddy), the gripping edge in social media networking, enabling Global Positioning giving the power the user the power to enable the power of the when, the where and never asking why!

“POS v2.0 is capitvating in the sense that it has taken everything by storm and captivates the user into capturing real life. It will really assist your social networking in instances when you’re say stuck in an airport or I dunno queing in a bank, or in the bank managers office. Or capitvating some young philly at a party. Once I get this bank loan HyfBud is gonna be your only man”

- Paul F Walsh – CEO PHD MDA MUFC HyfBUD Tech Inc. Segalalalala Ltd Inc. Plc.

My verdict:
We’ve seen what POS v1.0 has brought to the table, if you think you’re ready, if you think the world is ready (to know where you are at ALL times) well then “POS v2.0” certainly knows the who, the what AND the why, the only thing we don’t know is the price! For that? There’s always this!

But don’t take my word for it, I will leave the last word up to the people who know what they are talking about!

Meebo

meebo

There are a number of things we just use on the web as a form of habit, you check your email, log onto airline sites etc and you go about your business. One of the site’s that i find I’m using more and more frequently is Meebo

Having different friends on different Instant Messengers is a pain, especially if you have to install the bulky software that lets you login and chat. A lot of these chat clients are loaded with advertisements and features you don’t really need plus everytime you login it seems to want to get you to download the latest huge update. Meebo really cuts out a lot of the messing involved with these clients. Their site is a one stop instant messaging shop! Simply either input your user/pass for the relevant chat service and your away in a hack, voila, all your contacts and chat windows in a browser window, not hogging your pc’s resources and runs like a dream!

You can also simply set up an account with meebo so when you sign in with one user/pass all the different Instant Messaging services will connect instantly and all your available contacts will be sitting, again, in on browser window! It couldn’t be simpler!

There are more features on the site, including chatrooms and blogging and such but i tend to just use it for hit-and-run style logging on to my IM. I would highly reccomend this site for surfers with a limited PC / Laptop that has seen better days.

Here she sits my new pride and joy! Actually I say she but I’m not sure how you can tell . . anyway! Gateway M-Series notebook, all singing / dancing / gleaming! It’s a great machine and unlike my old laptop it runs effortlessly and without question! Well it is running Microsoft Vista so it does ask you questions like a curious 8 year old :

“Did you really want to run that program? Windows wasn’t sure if you sneezed and clicked by accident? Oh you did sneeze? Do you still want to run it? Maybe you should decide later if you want to run this program because you’re not in full health? Oh it’s only hayfever? Have you medicated? Well go on then, let’s run this program together just the once, you are my friend right? YES / NO / CANCEL”

Unlike my old HP Pavillion Series Laptop you don’t have to bring it out for dinner and drinks to convince it that it wants to use the internet. The start up for my old laptop involved the following sequence:

    Power On
    Make Tea (5 mins)
    Double click Firefox
    Let it Hang (7 mins)
Decide you want more sugar in tea (8.5 mins)
    Press Ctrl-Alt-Del
See whats on telly (12.5 mins)
Once task manager loads up run Firefox again
    Let it Hang (15 mins)
Firefox Loads but with no connection
Repeatadly clicking F5 and waiting for the wireless to kick in
Will I have more tea? Why not! (18 mins)
God I didn’t think Fair City was still on telly, that’s gas
    Mozilla Start Page Loads(22 mins)
    Try load twitter
    Something technically wrong? (27.3 mins)
Hard time finding the F5 button as its worn down
What did I need to do online again? Ah sod it there’s a film starting

For anyone that’s interested here’s what was thrown in!

Help Firefox Create World Record

Download Day 2008

Firefox 3 should be up for release in late June and the people at Mozilla have very cleverly set up a unique buzz around the final release. They intend creating a world record for the most software downloads in 24 hours. You visit the site and ‘pledge’ that you will download FF3 on the release date and they will send you a reminder about your download date.

According to the map there are nearly 600,000 pledges to download FF3 and a healthy 1,769 from Ireland alone! I’ve been using Firefox 3 Release Candidate now for the past couple of weeks and have to say I am well impressed. With the use of plugins and add-ons i can’t see why anyone should use Internet Explorer anymore.

TwitterFone

twitterfone

TwitterFone is a nice little gizmo that allows you to ring your Tweets! Launched by Pat Phelan at the start of May it’s a nice piece of work and is worth a try out if you can hunt down a much sought after invite!

You hook your phone details and twitter account up with the marshmallow sky slick twitterfone site and bobs your uncle! Then once out and about and suitably oiled up you can merrily tweet till your hearts content with out having to touch your laptop / phone browser!

I’m amazed at how they can translate pretty acurately from speech to text and its then linked in your tweets with a small mp3 clip of what was said, which can prove to be a bad thing . And while it very much is a nice novelty i would be curious to see how many people use it constantly, i know the sign ups have gone through the roof and its a smash success but would wonder if this is the taste of the future. Blogging voice to text? Replying to emails ? Commenting on Blogs?

Only time will tell!

    Dual-Sim Phone

    duosimphone1 1

Very few things excite me these days but i have to say I was looking for this a couple years ago. Wouldn’t it be worthwhile, in a day and age where a lot of the prepay phone services such as Vodafone / Meteor and O2 offer free texts and calls between their own networks, that by simply clicking a button on your phone you could make a call through your preferred network. It seems like effort i know but even if you were to have two sims in your phone and top each of them up by 20 euro (the amount you would usually have to minimum top up) you would have free calls / texts to everyone on those networks. What about your friends on another network?

Lets face it, if your miserable and sad enough to use this you won’t have many friends i would imagine . . .

    Fring – VOIP on Mobiles

    fring1wn1

Fring is exciting, at least i was excited about it. Essentially it’s a VOIP for your Smart phone. You have all the bells and whistles of Instant Messaging too but it’s main daddy is that it hooks up with Skype.

It has the makings for great things but i have to say when i tried it the quality was poor (i’m with Vodafone) and even though i was in full 3G coverage it had that choppy CB-radioesque feel to it and of course your paying for your data AND the skype credit if ringing Skype-Out. Although i see it now supports Google Talk which is pretty nifty!

I uninstalled it but would come back to it if 3G coverage was enhanced or the data connection was cheaper / free.

Although Fring is around a while, Irish Company Blueface are now running with it. If using it do play around with the settings, when i originally installed it would preload when my phone started which made functionality slow and of course it auto-connected to the services Skype etc.
